How to know Jesus...
| Before you get to know Jesus, you must recognize that there is
something you have that is keeping you from knowing Him and that you must deal
with this issue in the way God has planned for you. |
| |
| This issue is that you have done things that are morally
wrong. That means you have broken God's moral code. The Bible calls breaking
God's moral law "sin". Sin means that you have missed the mark of integrity or
the high standard that God requires. Also, everyone sins! I sin, you sin, we all
sin (Romans 3:23). Because we chose to sin against God, God is forced to respond
to our rebellion. The Bible says that "the wages of sin is death" (Romans 6:23).
Spiritual death is the punishment that a just God must give anyone that breaks
His moral code. God wants you to admit that you have broken His moral law and
confess or admit this to Him. |
| |
| Realizing we have sinned, or broken God's law is one thing,
but feeling true remorse and changing is something else. The Bible refers to
this as "repentance". That simply means that your life was heading one
direction, but you "changed the direction" of your life. Instead of living your
life to satisfy your own pleasure, you change direction and choose to live your
life to satisfy God (Luke 13:3, Acts 3:19). |
| |
| To do this, you must put Jesus Christ in charge of your life.
In Christian terminology, this is called making Him the "Lord of your life".
This means that Jesus is in charge. The Bible says that "If you confess with
your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the
dead, you shall be saved" (Romans 10:9). This verse means that if you truly
believe that Jesus is God's Son, that God raised Him from the dead, and that you
have turned control of your life over to Jesus, then you will spend eternity in
heaven. |
